Weekend Coffee Share: A Reflections Post

Good morning, my friends!

Come on in, take off your sweater and stay a while! This morning the sun is shining and the garden is a collection of color and scent. Would you like to join me outside for a cup today? It’s a good excuse as any to get some fresh air and sunshine 😀

Do you mind if I reflect a bit on the past month? It’s been quite a ride. I participated in two..yes, I know that it was insanity, but hear me out…challenges during April. I created new poetry every day for a month for National Poetry Writing Month and participated in the A to Z Challenge. And I survived!

I’m glad that I had a chance to participate in both challenges.  I used poetry for both challenges–I wrote a new poem for NaPoWriMo every day as well as hunting down poetry forms from A (awdl) to Z (zen) for the Blogging from A to Z challenge.

Both stretched my creativity to the outer limits. I discovered the art of found poetry and diciphered poetic forms. I had a good time.

I did find that my poetry written for NaPoWriMo seemed to get a lot more attention than any of my A to Z posts. It was an interesting phenomenon and now the scientist in me wants to know why. Was it the particular challenge or the subject matter? Something to ponder until next year.

Did you read some of my posts from either challenge? Did you enjoy one or the other? I am always looking for any kind of feedback so I can make my writing that much better.

Would you like another cup of coffee? The household is still asleep inside so we have time  to share some time. What have you been up to this past week or month? Is the weather finally becoming more spring-like?

Weekend Coffee Share is brought to you weekly through Part-Time Monster, the genius behind #weekendcoffeeshare. Come join us and meet some new people 🙂 I look forward to reading about your week.

The Reflections Post is your time to tell everyone what’s on your mind about the A to Z Challenge.    Good, bad, indifferent or however you feel, tell the rest of us.  Whatever you feel is worth saying, then say it.   Even if it’s just your blog stats for April–that’s valuable information that might help us get some ideas.  Say what you have to say and we will listen.

  1. Loving your theme 🙂 I think it’s really interesting seeing what everyone chose for their themes! 2 challenges at once is hardcore!

  2. Very cool that you could wrap the two blog events into one. And with a challenging theme. Congrats on finishing and I’m having coffee as I write this/

  3. I did WordPress’s Photo 101 while also doing NaBloPoMo last year. It was fun, but hectic. Congrats on finishing both challenges!

  5. I found that with A to Z, because the link that is followed is to the home page or front page of the blog, not to the specific url for the A to Z post, it was sometimes difficult to find the A to Z posts buried beneath other posts for the same day. So if a blogger was participating in A to Z and posting other stuff on the same day, I would get to one post and read that and then it wasn’t the A to Z post so I would just move on. I didn’t have time to dig around for the A to Z post of the day. Not with over 1000 blogs participating. I suspect it was the same for a lot of other A to Zers who were looking for that post but found others in the way. That might be one reason that some of your A to Z posts didn’t get as much traffic.

    1. I don’t know. I only posted twice a day and only for the two challenges I participated in. I made both posts “sticky” so they would always be up top. Perhaps it was the format or lack of interest in the topic. Thank you for your feedback. This was my first time so it was all a huge experiment

      1. Yeah, my first time, too. It was fun, though.

      2. Most definitely. I gained more confidence in writing poetry and a lot of resources as well as quite a few new friends. All in all it was very worth it.

  6. Thank you for the coffee I’m very impressed that you completed not one but two challenges this month. A truly amazing achievement. I hope to catch up on your posts when my life calms down a little bit. 🙂

  8. Congratulations on completing two challenges! I find poetry especially hard to write, so I admire that you wrote a poem every day! Kudos! My travel posts also got more attention than usual. Except for a post about college binders, for some weird reason. 😀 Thaks for coffee (again!)

  9. 2 Challenges in one month, wow, that is impressive. I do have to check out your posts, as I have the feeling that I have not come across your blog yet.
Would you mind a hot chocolate? Enjoy your weekend.

  10. Colour me suitably impressed that you completed two challenges in April – I barely scraped through one! I didn’t catch any of your posts, but I always knew I’d have some catching up to do when the challenge ended, and catch up I will (that’s way too many catches in one sentence!) Thanks for coffee, and the fresh air – it is particularly nice out today 🙂
