Five Sentence Fiction: Conversation Expiration

Mary held the school wall up, silent as a vocal tic. Mind darting between evaluation of social convention of dialog and a simple line to join in. She wondered if she could tie in the feeding habits of elephants into a conversation about weight loss and exercise. As the group walked away, she realized her moment had expired along with the school pizza. Mary waited for the next conversation to float by her.

  3. This is really good – I feel this person’s difficulties in socialising, and I liked her almost scientific approach to an attempt in engaging in conversation.

    Also, the ‘silent as a vocal tic’ is great.
